Guardian SunGuard SatinDeco Glass Combines Energy Savings with Translucent Beauty

Auburn Hills, Mich., October 5, 2009 – Guardian Industries today announced SunGuard SatinDeco, a new architectural glass option that combines advanced solar control and energy savings with an acid-etched, translucent appearance for commercial façade applications.

Architects around the world rely on Guardian’s patented SunGuard coatings for energy savings and aesthetic beauty. SunGuard advanced architectural glass is chosen for all types of commercial projects and to help gain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) credits. SunGuard glass is offered in a comprehensive range of colors and performance levels, and its coatings can be combined with laminated glass to provide sound protection and safety.

The new Guardian SunGuard SatinDeco combines these energy-saving qualities with the diffused privacy glass of Guardian’s SatinDeco, for use in insulated glass units for curtainwalls and windows. SunGuard SatinDeco offers architects an even broader range of design choices when a translucent, classic look is desired to help meet the increasing demand for decorative glass for use in hotels, healthcare facilities, office and retail buildings and many other types of projects.

“Guardian SunGuard SatinDeco meets the most demanding energy and design requirements of today’s commercial architects,” said Chris Dolan, Guardian’s director of commercial glass programs. “For our Select Fabricator customers, the SunGuard post-temperable coating means shorter lead times for fast-track job completion. Unlike traditional soft-coatings, SunGuard’s post-temperable coatings can be heat-treated and fabricated locally, and are stocked in standard sizes, ready for shipment.”

SatinDeco glass is manufactured using an acid-etching process. The result is a smooth, flat glass surface that disperses light and transforms transparent float glass into translucent glass. Guardian also offers ClimaGuard SatinDeco for residential windows and ShowerGuard SatinDeco, a patented, permanently-sealed glass for shower enclosures.

Guardian also manufactures SatinDeco acid etched glass without SunGuard coatings on both clear and low iron float from 3.2mm – 19mm as a single- or double-etch, as well as on mirrored substrates. The many choices mean Guardian SatinDeco can be used for a range of applications such as table tops, countertops, wall partitions, shower doors and much more.
